The foundations of the Christian life do not begin with emotion or some religious experience. The foundations of the Christian life are based upon God’s Truth, as communicated in God’s Word. God gave His Word to Adam, to Abraham, to Moses and the Prophets of the Old Covenant, to the Apostles and the Prophets of the New Covenant, to teach us how to walk with GOD. And most importantly, God’s Word went forth from the bosom of the Father to explain, literally, to exegete (ἐξηγέομαι) God for us (John 1.18). Jesus went upon the mountain to teach his disciples, and when he was done, “the multitudes were amazed at his teaching” (Mat. 7.28-29)
In Ephesians 4, Paul said the root of the evils of our society come from futile thoughts, darkened understandings and ignorance which comes from hardened hearts. Their sinful acts are the fruit of a calloused mind.
